C. James (C.J. Jim) Swires, 70, of Reno, went to be with the Lord Sunday, May 8, 2016.

Born Nov. 14, 1945, in Oil City, he was an only child of the late Clarence E. and Geraldine H. Hamilton Swires. He spent his whole life in Oil City, growing up on Hoffman Avenue.

Jim worked all his life and had different jobs, but he was best known for being “The Battery Man.” He owned and operated Oil City Radiator and Battery for over 40 years, until his health declined.

He had been a singer in two bands, one rock in his earlier years and one Christian. Jim loved the Lord and shared the truth with anyone who would listen. He loved flying and Harleys. In 1963, he married the former Karen S. Turner, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 29, 1989, he married the former Shirley S. Hale, whom he had been with for 31 years. She survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, James C. Swires, Dixie Lee Henderson, Amanda E. Swires-Owens, Alicia L. (Jeff) Rodgers, John H. Wagner Jr., and Nicole R. Hale.

Also surviving are his grandchildren; Brittany Schons, Tiffany Swires, Abigail and Emma Owens, Tausha Graham, Heather Romine, Jacob, Michael and Beau Romine, Rebecca, Kaleb, Ainslee, and Isabella Wagner, Noah and Anna Rodgers and Shawn Kline Jr.; and his great-grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Kylie, Clark, and Ava Schons, Logan Basham, Taylor Hays, Harper and McKenna Jones, Braden and Hope Gardner, Tripp and Chloe Romine.

He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Leila S. Hale; an uncle, Ken Swires; and his friend/brother, Dennis Umstead. He was preceded in death by his parents, numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Morrison Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, with the Rev. David Smith, pastor of the Franklin Nazarene Church, officiating. Interment will be in Reno Cemetery.
